“If it’s worth learning, it’s worth celebrating” encapsulates the enthusiasm I have for teaching and learning. I have been an educator for 14 years, in the communities of Oceanside, Fallbrook, and San Marcos. I began my teaching career at Fallbrook High School as a social studies and ELD teacher. For 7 years at FUHS, I was Activities Director and Leadership teacher, as well as Link Crew Coordinator, Varsity Baseball coach, and Surf Team Coach. An emerging sense of exploration within the field of education led me to work off campus as a teacher-coach for The Boomerang Project, (a student mentoring program), for the Quantum Learning Network as a Supercamp facilitator leading personal enrichment and accelerated learning camps, and for Heart for Africa, working with teachers in Kenya. In 2011, I became an Assistant Principal at Mission Hills High School working with VAPA, Social Studies, ASB, AP programs, ELD, Pageantry, PLUS, and Link Crew. My career in education has been a blend of co-curricular and curricular experiences because I believe in the virtues of a holistic and integrated educational experience. The joy of learning and exploration has enriched my life and blessed me with a beautiful family. My wife Stacey and I reside in Carlsbad, with our two boys Taj and Kai.

Woodland Park feels like a second home to me. I have been a member of the staff, first as a teacher and now an administrator, since the campus converted from a elementary to middle school in 1997. I have had the pleasure of teaching every grade kindergarten to 8th, with a special passion for 8th grade U.S. History.
My job as an administrator gives me unique opportunities to get to know and spend time with kids, parents, and staff members. We come together to create a safe, vibrant, diverse learning community.

I am so excited to be back in SMUSD! I am now entering my 17th year in education. Most of my experience has been with SMUSD. For 14 years, I taught mathematics at both San Marcos High School and Mission Hills High School. I have taught all math courses from Essentials of Algebra to Honors Precalculus. In addition to math, I have had experience teaching music. When Mission Hills High School was being built, I had the honor of being asked to be a part of the design team. At Mission Hills High School, I held the position of math department chair for seven years. I was the head varsity swimming and water polo coach for San Marcos High School from 1994-2004. When Mission Hills High School opened in 2004, I was the head varsity swim coach from 2004-2009. In 2012, I had an opportunity to work at Twin Oaks High School as a teacher on special assignment, with administrative responsibilities. I was in charge of the ASSET program, student activities, attendance, discipline, testing, and helping with PLC’s. In 2013, I became assistant principal for Roosevelt Middle School in the VUSD. During the last two years at Roosevelt, I worked with Math, Science, PE, VAPA, ASB, the Boys and Girls Club, and All School Sports. I was raised in San Marcos and have a genuine passion for the SMUSD schools and the community. I live in San Marcos with my amazing wife, Cherryl, who is a counselor at Mission Hills High School and my son Brendan.
