(Responsibility, Independance, and Study Skills in Education) Program Study Skills and Academic Habits Training Click here for Mr. Piro's webpage http://www.sanelijomiddle.org//Domain/1104 Days/Times: -RISE will be held in room 304 with Pasquale Piro from 7:10-7:57am, every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday 6 week Program: September 20 - October 27 Applications are available thru Celena Breining, School Counselor, @ 760-290-2809 Please return application as soon as possible to the Counseling Office due to limited number of seats Program Curriculum -How to create and maintain an organized binder -Classroom and school expectations -How to find and make up missing work -Study skills and habits -Respect for others and self -How to work cooperatively -Desire to succeed Week 1 - Orientation -Be introduced to the group, program, and teacher -Learn basic information about SEMS -Learn about expectations and policies of middle school vs. elementary -Be introduced to mygradebook.com, SEMS website, AR/AM, Moddle, etc. Week 2 - Organization -Obtain recommended (necessary) supplies (as agreed upon by 6th grade teachers) -Learn how to organzie a binder -Learn how to find and document assignments from each teacher -Learn strategies for staying on top of workload Week 3 - Study Skills -Learn how to overcome homework challenges -Learn critical reading stategies -Learn test-taking strategies -Learn how to take Cornell notes -Find out where to obtain support for specific needs Week 4 - Motivation -Learn about goal setting -Create action plans -Participate in team building -Participate in confidence building Week 5 - Independent Practice -Work each day with one aspect of what we've learned in order to garner success Week 6 - Reflection -Hold a Socratic Seminar on what we've learned -Conference with teacher about success over the grading period -Share with class what has been learned -Self-assess growth over the grading period Family/Student responsibilities: -This is not a Homework Club -Students are expected to follow school rules while attending program -Attendance will be taken. Student will receive reinforcement for attendance -Students must stay the entire time |
