Who is Eligible to Participate?

Carrillo students in the third, fourth, and fifth grades.
Participation is 100% voluntary.


When are Sign-Ups?

Sign-ups are the week of January 13th- 16th during lunch and recess.


When is the Carrillo Spelling Bee?

The Spelling Bee will be split into four assemblies, a semi-final and one  final for each grade participating. All assemblies will be in the school cafeteria.

  • Semi-Final (all grades): January 29 at 9:00 a.m.
  • Grade 3 Final: February 9th at 9:00 a.m.
  • Grade 4 Final: February 11th at 9:00 a.m.
  • Grade 5 Final: February 12th at 9:00 a.m.

Classes will be in attendance. Chairs will be out for parents, also.

Will the grade 3-5 students compete together?

No, each grade level will have its own mini-bee within the Carrillo Spelling Bee. There will be one winner and one runner up per grade.


Is our Carrillo Spelling Bee affiliated with the Scripps National Bee?

Yes, we are utilizing the Scripps National Spelling Bee program to conduct our school spelling bee. However, our school winners will not be moving on to the semi-finals. In San Diego County, only 7th and 8th graders are eligible for further competitions.
